Nick Pope was a civil servant's son from London. His father tested aircraft at Farnborough, and Nick joined the Ministry of Defence at nineteen, the start of twenty one years spent briefing ministers and keeping secrets.

He filled lecture halls on five continents. He wrote books that sold around the world. He met an American professor in a hotel lobby in San José and married her sixteen weeks later. He spent his last spring in Tucson, Arizona, watching British comedies with his wife and laughing, by his own instruction, as much as possible.

In 1991 the Ministry handed him a desk with a filing cabinet full of things nobody could explain. He sat down a skeptic. What happened after that is the story this site exists to keep.
